Bengaluru Roads Waterlogged After Fresh Rain, Police Issues Advisory As Commuters Face Traffic Snarls

Heavy rainfall lashed Bengaluru on Monday evening, leaving several areas and roads in the capital city of Karnataka waterlogged. The city traffic police advised commuters to avoid certain roads which have been inundated.

Parts of Karnataka including Bengaluru witnessed rains over the week-end as the northeast monsoon intensified in southern India.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that Coastal and South Interior Karnataka is likely to witness heavy rainfall between November 6 and 8.

• The traffic at the Vidya Shilpa underpass service road was moving slowly due to waterlogging and traffic diversion has been done at Kogilu junction.

• Water logging near MMT Junction towards KR Puram Railway station has led to slow-moving traffic.

• The vehicular traffic has been slowed at the Hebbal junction due to the rains.

• Due to heavy rain and water-logging at Bengaluru’s Kasturinagar on ORR road, vehicle movement has been very slow. The traffic police requested commuters to travel accordingly.

Earlier in October, severe waterlogging was witnessed in parts of Bengaluru after heavy rainfall.

NE Monsoon Rainfall Over Core Region of South India in Oct Sixth Lowest Since 1901

Northeast monsoon rainfall over the core region of south India in October this year was the sixth lowest since 1901, the India Meteorological Department has said. It also said that data from 1980 to 2022 shows “there is a tendency of delay” in the commencement of northeast monsoon rainfall over Tamil Nadu and its adjoining areas.

Northeast monsoon rainfall over the core region of south peninsula (comprising five subdivisions of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, south interior Karnataka and Kerala) in October was the sixth lowest since 1901, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said at a press conference. He said in the years with El Nino and Positive Indian Ocean Dipole, Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas get less rainfall in the month of October.
