Director Shashank Persuades Audience To Watch Kannada Films In Theatres
He expressed concern over the fact that Kannada movies have failed to perform well even on the OTT platforms.

Kannada filmmaker Shashank has won adulation from the audience for directing films like Krishna Leela and Moggina Manasu. He has dominated the headlines recently for a letter that he shared on Instagram. In this letter, Shashank has requested Kannada viewers to watch films in their native language. He started the letter by providing a reference to the Cauvery River dispute that has been a bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Shashank wrote that people in Karnataka have a right to the Cauvery River and that is why it is ok for them to fight on this issue. Similarly, Shashank said that we also have a right to Kannada cinema. He added that viewers should take the initiative of watching Kannada films in theatres. Shashank mentioned that otherwise, a good Kannada film would not be successful at the cinemas. According to him, many families love Kannada films and movies, but without their footfalls in halls, a significant collection is lost.

Shashank added that he has been writing this post with immense pain. According to him, a Kannada film earns more or less 34 crore in Karnataka. He wrote that four Kannada films Kousalya Supraja Rama, Daredevil Musthafa, Boys Hostel, and Saptha Sagaradaache Ello – Side A are much-appreciated. Shashank wrote that the Kannada people have watched these movies. He, however, said that the box office collection of a Tamil film is comparatively more than the combined earnings of these Kannada films. In such a scenario, Shashank said that the Kannada audience has to contemplate their viewing choices. He said that they should watch films in foreign languages as well, but should also focus on films in their native language. He expressed concern over the fact that Kannada movies have failed to perform even in the OTT platforms.

Shashank added, “Audiences watching Kannada films comment and criticise indiscriminately.” He said that we movie directors are ready to accept and correct our mistakes as well. “Now we, the movie makers, are pointing out your mistakes. Why don’t you understand your mistakes and support Kannada movies?” he ended the post with these lines.
