Train Used In Shah Rukh Khan's Iconic Chaiyya Chaiyya Song Completes 115 Years of Service
The lyrics of Chaiyya Chaiyya penned by Gulzar are based on Thaiyya Thaiyya(lyrics by poet Bulleh Shah), a Sufi folk song.

Shah Rukh Khan, the iconic Bollywood actor, is known for leaving an indelible mark on Indian cinema with his remarkable talent and charm. One of his memorable films, Dil Se, directed by Mani Ratnam, stirred both acclaim and controversy. While the movie faced criticism for depicting Amar’s (SRK) obsessive behaviour towards Moina (Manisha Koirala), it garnered appreciation for its compelling storyline and exceptional acting.

Notably, the film featured the timeless song Chaiyya Chaiyya, composed by AR Rahman, which celebrated its 115th anniversary recently. This iconic track, set on a moving train and featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora, continues to be a beloved and celebrated piece of Indian cinema, thanks to its unforgettable music and mesmerizing choreography by Farah Khan. Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi lent their voices to this legendary song.

The iconic song “Chaiyya Chaiyya" from the film “Dil Se" boasts intriguing behind-the-scenes facts. Radiobanglanet.com reveals that the song was filmed on top of a moving train due to the rejection of permission to shoot at an Ooty railway platform. The railway authorities couldn’t afford to halt train services for the five-day shoot. Mani Ratnam, the director, proposed the idea to choreographer Farah Khan, who agreed, later admitting, “I told him it was a great idea, without realizing what I was getting into."

The song’s lyrics, written by Gulzar, are inspired by Thaiyya Thaiyya, a Sufi folk song with verses penned by poet Bulleh Shah. In 2002, the BBC World Service conducted a global poll to determine the ten most popular songs of all time. Among 7,000 songs from around the world, Chaiyya Chaiyya secured the ninth position, reflecting its universal appeal.

The film Dil Se also featured talents like Preity Zinta, Raghubir Yadav, and others alongside Shah Rukh Khan, contributing to its enduring impact on Bollywood.
