Jimmy Shergill's Parents Didn't Talk To Him For 1.5 Years Because He Cut His Hair: 'I Made Mistakes...'

Jimmy Shergill started his film journey with Maachis, but it was his role in Mohabbatein that made him a household name. Despite gaining popularity for his boy-next-door image, Jimmy wanted to do more than just ‘chocolate boy’ roles. In a recent interview, he mentioned returning signing amounts to some producers because he aimed to take up varied projects instead of sticking to similar roles.

Jimmy shared that even though people suggested he capitalise on his charm, he wanted to explore new opportunities. Realising that sticking to the same type of roles wouldn’t be beneficial in the long run, he mentioned that after working hard for the first two years, he returned the signing amount to many people because he wanted to do something different. “Because this chocolate boy thing was a little too much at the time. Everybody would say ‘why? This is amazing’ and I would say ‘no, there is something inside me telling me that this won’t last for more than 2-3 years’. So I knew that I needed to look for… that’s where films like Munna Bhai, Haasil, Yahaan, these films came to me,” he shared with Bollywood Bubble and added, “These gave a different image and never let you get stuck into one particular image.”

Jimmy, born as Jasjit Singh Gill and a Sikh by birth, also spoke about cutting his hair at 18, causing some tension with his parents. Reflecting on that time in his life, he said, “You are a kid, you make mistakes, even I made a few mistakes. Someone brought it up and it went on a little too far.

Jimmy said that not talking to one’s parents is “more painful” and shared that his parents probably forgave him within a year and a half. “Maybe it was destiny, and it works more than your plans. At that time, I could not even think that I would land in this industry but maybe it was written,” he said.
