Stock Market Updates: Benchmark indices extended their record-breaking streak on the BSE on Wednesday with the BSE Sensex hitting a new record high of 77,581.5, while the Nifty50 scaled 23,630.
The 30-share index was, thereafter, hovering around 77,394 levels, gaining around 90 points in early deals. Similarly, the 50-share index was up 19 points at 23,576 levels.
In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap, and SmallCap indices advanced up to 0.25 per cent, hitting record highs on the way.
Among sectors, the Nifty Metal was the top performing index (up 0.4 per cent), followed by the Nifty FMCH (0.35 per cent). The Nifty Realty, meanwhile, fell 0.8 per cent.
“The market is also benefiting from positive trends in global markets, particularly in the US as it progresses steadily towards the presidential election in November. Volatility has decreased this month, supporting a short-term upward trend,” explained Siddhartha Khemka, Head of Retail Research at Motilal Oswal.
Global Cues
The optimism comes after S&P500, overnight, notched fresh record highs, driven by a rally in Nvidia shares.
The broad market index added 0.25 per cent to close at 5,487.03, while the Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.03 per cent to end at 17,862.23. The tech-heavy index also closed at a record.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.15 per cent to settle at 38,834.86.
Meanwhile, markets in Asia Pacific were largely positive Wednesday morning with hang Seng up 1.5 per cent, Kospi 0.9 per cent, and Nikkei 0.5 per cent.
ASX200, however, was lower by 0.1 per cent.
