Mumbai: The markets closed in the positive terrain picking up momentum in the final hours of trade. The Sensex saw the highest ever close since May 11.
The Sensex closed up 149.17 points or 1.23 per cent at 12323.08, and the Nifty up 48.30 points or 1.37 per cent at 3571.75.
About 1166 shares have advanced, 1206 shares declined, and 110 shares are unchanged.
All the BSE sectoral indices were closed in green.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,018.59 up 0.41 per cent 20.33 points.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,017.21 up 0.06 per cent or 3.35 points.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,256.09 up 1.17 per cent or 60.98 points. Asahi India, Tube Investment, Punj Tractors, Ashok Leyland and Maruti Udyog gained.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.97 per cent or 111.77 points at 5,798.89. Canara Bank, SBI, ICICI Bank, Bank of India and Karnataka Bank closed in green.
The BSE Consumer Durable was up 1.39 per cent or 41.90 points at 3,050.34. Titan Industries, Mirc Electronic, Samtel Color and Whirlpool moved up.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.97 per cent or 78.30 points at 8,180.12. Alstom Projects, HEG, BHEL, Bharat Elec and Lakshmi Machine witnessed buying interest.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 0.50 per cent or 10.18 points at 2,043.82. P&G, HLL, Dabur India and McDowell surged.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.60 per cent or 21.67 points at 3,635.89. Sterling Bio, Apollo Hospital, Ranbaxy Labs and Divis Labs gained.
The BSE IT Index was surged 0.93 per cent or 40.24 at 4,389.61. Wipro, Mphasis BFL, TCS, Moser Baer, Hexaware Tech ended up.
The BSE Metal Index was up 0.48 per cent or 39.66 at 8,272.47. Sesa Goa, Hind Zinc, Tata Steel and SAIL moved up.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1.10 per cent or 63.83 at 5,863.54. Reliance Natural, GAIL, Reliance and ONGC flared up.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7047.65 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33184 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3477.85 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 43709.5 crore.
