Mumbai: The Income Tax department is doing a scrutiny of taxpayers. If you have received a scrutiny letter from the department, don’t worry and take it easy. Just sit and write a detailed reply to the department. A detailed reply will ensure better tax assessment, says expert Subhash Lakhotia.
Tax officials want to know about the investments you have made this year, from where the money has come and the size of your household budget. Recently, a senior citizen received a scrutiny letter from the Income Tax department.
He had received such a letter for the first time in his life. In that notice, the department had sought from him the details of his household expenses.
The 83-year-old man got worried reading this, as he had not kept any account of his household expenditure for the year. In such a case, do not worry and give details of all amounts spent on the household, without details of break-up.
So if a similar notice has reached you, reply it with a lot of details about the things that have been asked from you. Also provide necessary documents in its support. Reveal your source of income if the letter demands it. If you have taken a loan, give details of loan confirmation. Exhaustive reply with details and supporting documents will always help.
