Markets end flat on lacklustre buying

Mumbai: After two days of significant gains, markets closed flat as lack of buying interest was seen in scrips across sector.

The Sensex closed down 14.91 points or 0.11 per cent at 14,114.73, and the Nifty ended up 2.10 points or 0.05 percent at 4,080.5.

About 1,273 shares have advanced, 1,307 shares declined, and 50 shares are unchanged.

ACC, Wipro, Bharti Airtel, BHEL, Suzlon Energy, M&M and VSNL were the top gainers on the indices.

HDFC, Hindalco, Infosys, Reliance, SAIL, Jet Airways, and Oriental Bank were the top losers on the indices.

The BSE Auto index was up 0.83 per cent or 47.18 points at 5,699.73. Mahindra & Mahindra, Tube investment, Tata Motor, Exide Industries and Punj Tractor were the main gainers.

The BSE Bankex gained 0.23 per cent or 16.74 points at 7,419 – Centurion BoP, UTI bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Karnataka Bank and HDFC Bank closed up.

The BSE Capital Good index closed up 1.02 per cent or 94.83 points at 9,361.10. Praj Industries, BHEL, Greaves Cotton, Thermax and L&T moved up.

The BSE FMCG index was down 0.32 per cent or 6.11 points at 1,927.27 – Nestle, Shaw Wallace, Colgate, Nirma and HLL slipped.

The BSE Healthcare index was down 0.20 per cent or 7.67 points at 3,901.06 – Sterling Bio, GlaxoSmithKline, Wyeth, Matrix Lab and Wockhardt ended negative.

The BSE IT index closed in red 0.32 per cent or 17.48 points at 5,378.89. Moser Baer and Infosys closed in red.

The BSE Metal index ended down 1.17 per cent or 108.67 points at 9,162.74. SAIL, Sterlite Ind, Hindalco, Jindal Steel and Jindal Saw declined.

The BSE Oil & Gas index was down 0.68 per cent or 45.00 points at 6565.55. IOC, GAIL, Reliance, BPCL and Chennai Petro plummets.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8330.27 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 26220.52 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4050.9 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 38601.69 crore.
