Mkts end flat amid rangebound session
Stocks failed to hold on to early gains on the Bombay Stock Exchange and continue to fluctuate.

Mumbai: The markets had yet another session of weakness, they were sluggish throughout the day and were hovering around the previous day close.

The Sensex closed at 11,465.72 down 12 points. The Nifty closed flat at 3357 up 3 points.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,766.64 down 39.22 points or 0.68 per cent.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,770.31, down 32 points or 0.67 per cent.

The BSE sectoral indices closed mixed.

The BSE Metal Index lost 1.5 per cent at 8,080.03. Hind Zinc, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Saw, Hindalco witnessed selling pressure.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.6 per cent at 5,128.73. Bank of Baroda, Andhra Bank, Vijaya Bank, IOB, Union Bank moved downwards.

The BSE IT Index closed flat at 4,198.42. HCL Tech, Moser Baer, Mphasis BFL, Patni Computer closed in red.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.14 per cent at 5,451.95. BPCL, HPCL, Kochi Refin, MRPL and IOC advanced.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was lost 0.3 per cent at 7,722.34. Dredging Cor, KEC Infrastruct, Larsen, Gammon India closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index was flat at 1,984.37. Nestle, HLL, Tata Tea, Nirma closed in positive terrain.

The BSE Auto Index gained 1 per cent at 4,923.99. Hind Motors, Bharat Forge, Punj Tractors, Asahi India and Maruti Udyog advanced on the bourses.

The BSE Health Care Index was up by 2 per cent at 3,556.53. Pfizer, Aventis Pharma, Novartis India, GlaxoSmithKline and FDC closed in positive terrain.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6427.47 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 17859.84 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3223.34 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 27510.65 crore.
