Mkts finish low: Sensex down 157 pts
The markets were languishing at the lower level throughout the day due to lack of buying interest in scrips.

Mumbai: The markets were languishing at the lower level throughout the day due to lack of buying interest in scrips. The Sensex closed at 10,767.97 down 157 points and the Nifty closed at 3156 down 41 points.

The BSE Bankex was down 2.3 per cent at 4,399.41. Oriental Bank, ICICI Bank, Canara Bank, IOB, UTI Bank and Bank of Baroda were among the losers.

The BSE Metal Index lost 1.7 per cent at 8,595.09. Tata Steel, SAIL, Hindalco and Gujarat NRE, Coke witnessed selling pressure.

The BSE Capital Goods Index down 1.6 per cent at 6,995.23. BHEL, Dredging Cor, L&T, Thermax, Carborundum and Ingersoll Rand closed lower.

The BSE IT Index was down 1.34 per cent at 3,792.06. Satyam, TCS, Patni Computer, Wipro and Infosys moved down. The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed down by one per cent at 5,370.41. GAIL, IOC, Reliance and HPCL

The BSE FMCG Index was down 0.8 per cent at 1,988.58. Britannia, ITC, Shaw Wallace, Dabur India and Tata Tea closed in red.

The Auto index closed at 4,768.99 down 0.8 per cent. Tube Investment, Sundaram-Clayto, Ashok Leyland, Hero Honda, Apollo Tyres and TVS Motor closed lower.

The BSE Health care index was down 0.48 per cent at 3,148.32. Dr Reddys Labs, Glaxo SmithKline, Aurobindo Pharma, Biocon, Ranbaxy Labs and Cadila Health slipped.

However, the BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 2.5 per cent at 2,826.59.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5636.81 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 19335.75 crore.

The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2692.56 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 27665.12 crore.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,332.35, down 17 points whereas the Midcap Index ended at 4,415.46, down 12 points.

About 955 shares advanced, 1,347 shares declined, and 93 shares remained unchanged towards the closing.

Apart from the consumer durables index, all the BSE sectoral indices closed in red. Stocks from banking, metal and capital goods sector are among the major laggards.
