New Delhi: Indian Industry is still vehemently opposed to having quotas for employment.

However, the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) along with ASSOCHAM has brought out some draft proposals on how the private sector can implement equal opportunity employment to the backward classes modeled on the American system of Affirmative action.

According to the draft, the industry will finance special training programmes for the backward class.

The draft also puts forward plans to give special preference to vendors from the backward classes, provided they meet the strict quality standards.

It will also institute over 100 scholarships at the IITs and IIMs. The draft also says that industry will create a self-regulating code for compliance for its members from October.

The CII will also appoint an Ombudsman to oversee these affirmative action initiatives.
