Malayalam actor turned producer G. Suresh Kumar recently shared his take on the current scenario of Malayalam cinema, expressing concern about the evolving tastes of the audience. Speaking at a program during the International Book Festival, Suresh Kumar voiced the challenge he faces in enjoying many recent superhit films, pointing out that audiences are not giving enough importance to the industry.
During his speech, Suresh Kumar shared his opinion on the recent hit film “Leo,” starring Thalapathy Vijay. He mentioned that “Leo” did not leave a significant impact on him, particularly in the climax scene of the film. Emphasizing the importance of exploring Malayalam cinema, he acknowledged that while the film might captivate a broader audience within Tamil and Malayalam circles, he struggled to connect with it due to the generational gap. He specifically pointed out the climax scene where Thalapathy Vijay’s character fights with over 200 people simultaneously, stating that while the audience cheered, it failed to convince him.
Reflecting on the recent Malayalam hit “Romancharan,” Suresh Kumar acknowledged that despite its success in regional cinemas, it did not impress him. The film, labelled as a comedy-drama, did not amuse him, though he did not consider it to be bad. Suresh Kumar noted the evolving preferences of the audience, leaning towards supporting directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj and Nelson.

G. Suresh Kumar is the father of Keerthy Suresh, who has previously worked with Vijay in the 2018 film Sarkar and the 2017 film Bairavaa.
Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, performed exceptionally well at the box office from its opening day, breaking records to become the highest-collected Tamil film of the year. The film featured Thalapathy Vijay, Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Gautham Menon, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin, Mathew Thomas, Priya Anand, Sandy, and Mansoor Ali Khan in pivotal roles. With a final collection of Rs 623 crore worldwide, the action drama’s success has now made it available on Netflix.
