4 Players Dropped From Indian Team For 1st Test Against Bangladesh
The BCCI announced India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh on Sunday; check out some of the big names that have not been picked for the red-ball match.

India will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series in September 2024, which is set to start on September 19 in Chennai. The BCCI took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday to announce the squad for the series opener at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant return to the Indian Test team after missing the last series against England, but as many as four players who were part of the 4-1 series win in March 2024 were dropped from the squad.

Here’s a look at four players dropped from India’s team for the first Test against Bangladesh.

Devdutt Padikkal: Devdutt Padikkal made his Test debut for India against England at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on March 7, 2024. He came to bat at No. 4 for the Rohit Sharma-led side and scored 65 runs from 103 balls. But despite scoring fifty on his Test debut, he failed to find a place in the 16-member squad announced for the first Test against Bangladesh.

Mukesh Kumar: Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar was part of India’s Test squad in the last series against England, though he got a chance to play in only one match of the series. In the second Test played at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, he remained wicketless in the first inning but managed to dismiss one English batter in the second.

Rajat Patidar: Rajat Patidar made his Test debut against England in Vizag and played three matches in which he managed to score a total of 63 runs. He missed the fifth Test in Dharamsala due to an injury suffered in the training session.

KS Bharat: Wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat played in the first two Tests against England but failed to impress with his batting performances, after which he was dropped from the playing XI but remained part of the Test squad. Bharat, who made his Test debut for India against Australia on February 9, 2023, in Nagpur, was almost certain to lose his place in the side after Rishabh Pant made a super comeback in competitive cricket from a life-threatening road accident on December 30, 2022.
