'A Good Contest, Playing in Overseas Conditions Would be Awesome': Rohit Sharma on Playing Test Cricket Against Pakistan
Rohit Sharma remains open to the idea of playing their rivals Pakistan especially in Tests as he believes it would be a good contest between two sides keeping politics out of it.

It was one of the podcasts for the ages as the Indian skipper came in as a guest in the Club Praire Podcast- hosted by former international stars, Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan and they posed an interesting question on the Indian skipper regarding his thoughts on playing Test cricket against their biggest rivals, Pakistan.

In response, the Indian captain across all formats responded by praising the neighbouring country’s cricket team and suggested that the side has a brilliant bowling attack and reckons that a contest especially in the longest format in overseas conditions would be a good battle to watch.

“I believe that they’re a good team. They’ve got a superb bowling line-up, so I think it’ll be a good contest, especially if you play in overseas conditions. That will be awesome,” said the Indian captain.

But now the two sides have only played against each other in the ICC tournaments with the most recent contest coming in the recently concluded ODI World Cup in 2023 where the two sides met at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Rohit however remains open to the idea of playing all forms of cricket against Pakistan and maintained his point that it is a sporting contest at the end of the day. He is not too bothered about the politics behind the current stance and reckons that the contest would be a good one for the viewers to watch.

In the podcast, Rohit also recalled the last time India played a Test against Pakistan. It was during 2007 when Pakistan had come to India for a three-match affair. The series ended with a 1-0 win to India where Sourav Ganguly scored 534 runs across the three games while Anil Kumble picked up 18 wickets.

Most Indian cricket fans would share the sentiment with Rohit as they would want to see the two sides go against each other to provide a ravishing contest between two quality sides. Something that has not been taking place for quite some time now as things off the field have taken precedence in the matter.
