The England Cricket Team might be in a spot of bother with reports suggesting that the white-ball skipper Jos Buttler and the legendary English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff might not have gotten along.
Flintoff was roped in to work with the English white-ball side where he was an assistant coach during England’s tour of the West Indies and the T20 World Cup 2024 that took place in the USA and the West Indies.
Following his stint, it was revealed that he would not be part of the side during England’s three-match T20I series and five-match ODI series against Australia, but opt for a new move elsewhere.
According to a report by The Telegraph, Buttler, “is not believed to have gelled particularly with Flintoff during the T20 World Cup in June”.
With Matthew Mott stepping down as England’s white-ball head coach with two years remaining on his contract, the England Cricket Board (ECB) have roped in the former English international, Marcus Trescothick on an interim basis for the rest of the home summer. Trescothick is also England’s assistant coach for the Test side who will be expected to do both roles in tandem. Buttler and Trescothick have already played together during the former’s early years in the domestic scene where both men represented Somerset, indicating a positive relationship between the two.

Flintoff on the other hand, suffered serious injuries in a car accident at the sets of the popular show Top Gear. After making his return to cricket, he could continue his coaching role in The Hundred.
Flintoff was part of the Northern Superchargers as the head coach of the side. The team narrowly missed out on the playoff spot after having won five games and losing two. Considering his optimistic start, it could see him continue his role.
England on the other hand is in the middle of a Test match series against Sri Lanka. On Day 3 of the first Test in Manchester, the home side are in pole position to take the victory and maintain their dominant record in home conditions as they are expected to outclass the Lankan side.
