The route to the playoffs for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2024 just got a lot more difficult following the side’s loss to Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium by 10 runs.
If the five-time champions are to make it to the playoffs, they will have to win all their upcoming games. These include four wins on the road against Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad as well as wins at home against KKR and LSG.
But it is not as simple as that. It will come down to whether MI have luck on their side and if they can see some favourable outcomes, especially regarding their close rivals in the points table.

Ideally, they would want the top two names, in this case, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders to take home all the wins in their remaining fixtures to help MI make some headway in the playoff race.

They would also want sides like GT, CSK, SRH and LSG to lose out on most of their games but not all of them to keep MI in the hunt to clinch a spot in the top four.
But the focus is simple for MI, win all their upcoming games if they are to stand a chance in qualifying for the playoffs with a spot in the top-2 of the points table close to impossible. Winning all their remaining games would mean they have an additional 10 points to their tally making it 16 in total.

The loss against DC will hurt the franchise but MI have shown that they have the firepower to come close to victory. Coming close to chasing down a score of 258 runs is no small feat especially when you factor in that the opening pair did not fire at all for them. This could have been the difference for the side and they will hope to fire on all cylinders in the games to come.
