As the cricketing calendar comes closer to the headline Test event of the year, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is set to be played in Australia, one of the biggest contests fans will be excited to see is that between Nathan Lyon and Rishabh Pant.
Lyon in an interview with Star Sports, explained what it was like facing Pant on the field. He also talked about how difficult it is to face someone like Pant and is eager to see him on the field for the Test series slated to begin in November, later this year.
“You’re bowling against someone like Rishabh Pant, who is electric, isn’t he? He’s got all the skill in the world. As bowlers, your room for error is so small. I know as a bowler I’m going to get hit for sixes. I’m not afraid of it but the challenge is that I try and keep someone like Rishabh in his crease and potentially try and defend it a lot more bringing in a couple of chances. Pretty fun,” Lyon shared.
Pant has come a long way since his iconic knock at the Gabba to help India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy back in 2020-21. After suffering horrific injuries due to a car accident, the 26-year-old has come back to the Indian side a player reborn.

India’s 1st Test against Bangladesh in Chennai marked the first time that Rishabh Pant played a five-day game since his accident. He made a statement return by scoring a century during the second innings as he completed his comeback in all three formats.
Now the Indian team will take on Bangladesh for the second Test in Kanpur. This would be followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home beginning on October 16.
With Pant looking in fine form in the longest format, he will be expected to be a consistent performer with the bat and behind the stumps as we head closer to the iconic Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will see two top sides battling it out with both teams looking to ensure their spot in the World Test Championship finals.
