As the T20 World Cup 2024 came to a thrilling end with unbeaten India becoming the champions, the ICC has announced its team of the tournament. Naturally, it’s dominated by players from India.
India are the first team in the T20 World Cup history to win it without losing a single match. Rohit Sharma became the first Indian to win the title both as a player and a captain.
As many as six Indians have made the cut in ICC’s playing XI including Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.

Rohit was the tournament’s second-highest run-getter and he set the tone as an opener. He struck 257 runs at a strike-rate of 156.7 and recorded three half-centuries.
Suryakumar struck two half-centuries – against USA and Afghanistan – and a vital 47 runs against England in the semi-final to bail his team out of trouble.
Pandya played a crucial role too with 144 runs and 11 wickets. His spell in the slog overs against South Africa in the final will be remembered for a long time.
Pandya first accounted for the big-hitting Heinrich Klaasen whose blistering half-century had put South Africa within touching distance of the title. And then he defended 16 runs in the final over that began with the big wicket of David Miller.
Axar scored 92 runs at a strike-rate of 139.39 and took 9 wickets at an economy of 7.86 and played in every game. His numbers may not be as striking as others but his contributions proved pivotal to India’s performances. Be it his one-handed catch of Mitchell Marsh in the Super 8 or the enterprising innings of 47 against South Africa in the final, Axar made it count when it mattered.
Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball for India and he also won player-of-the-tournament award. He took 15 wickets at an excellent economy of 4.17 and his surreal consistency across the tournament was a prominent reason behind India’s unbeaten run.
Arshdeep had a tournament to remember. He finished with 17 wickets, the joint-highest in the tournament. He opened the attack for India and was equally good in the slog overs too.
ICC Team of the Tournament: Rohit Sharma, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Nicholas Pooran, Suryakumar Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Rashid Khan, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Anrich Nortje (12th man)
