Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings welcome Lucknow Super Giants to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday for their next outing in the 2024 edition of the Indian Super League.

CSK and LSG are placed fourth and fifth respectively on the points table after the conclusion of seven games each with eight points to their name so far in the season, separated by nothing but net run rate.

The hosts would look to avenge their 8-wicket defeat on the road at the hands of the side from Lucknow, and would likely tap into the acquired knowledge of the manner in which LSG have operated this season taking stock of the possible patterns they have exhibited so far.

Chennai dive into a stretch of three games on the bounce in their city of origin as the T20 extravaganza heads into a crucial phase, which could make or break a team’s season. CSK will have their eyes firmly set on all points on offer at the hallowed Chepauk Stadium where the deafening whistles reign supreme.

The Chennai side got off to a brilliant start to the tournament with a couple of home win against Royall Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans, slumped to a couple of defeats on the road against the likes of Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, before maintaining their winning run at home against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side picked up their first win away from home this season with a massive win over Mumbai Indians but were handed a loss by the UP-based LSG at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

KL Rahul’s LSG come to Chepauk on the back of the win over Tuesday’s hosts at the Ekana Sports City a couple of days ago, which brought them level on points with the five-time winner’s tally this season.

Lucknow, who got off to a losing start in the season against Rajasthan Royals, strung up three straight wins over Punjab Kings, RCB and GT to find form before going down to DC and KKR at home and away respectively.

LSG will take heart from their solid win against the men in yellow, but travelling to Chennai has proven a daunting task even for the mightiest of sides with the holders unbeaten in front of their partisan crowd.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming will be aware of the challenges that lie ahead and would look to take it one game at a time starting with the assignment against LSG, before permitting their mind to turn to their scheduled clashes against Sunrisers Hyderabad and PBKS.

The home team will look to begin their spell of three games on the trot at the Den in a positive fashion with a precedent-setting showing at the usually spin-friendly MAC, which could also prove to be a batting haven with its lightning-quick outfield and relatively short boundaries.

The encounter has all the makings of a gilt-edged strategic battle with both sides looking to outmanoeuvre each other with the promise of solidifying their slot in the top half of the table.
