The current champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings are gearing up for the upcoming 2024 season and three of their important overseas players have made their way into the camp as the side prepares for their highly anticipated opening clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The New Zealand trio of Mitchell Santner, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra are now in the CSK camp. In a video uploaded by the team’s official handle on X (formerly known as Twitter), the three were seen in a light-hearted skit indicating their arrival in the camp.
Santner, who is a spin-bowling all-rounder, was retained by the franchise and could be a key player during the season. Considering the conditions in Chennai which favours the spinners, he will be an important asset with the ideal matchup against the right-handers as well.

Mitchell, the batting all-rounder who also bowls quick, was bought in the 2024 auctions for a massive bid of 14 crores. He had good performances with the bat in the 2023 ODI World Cup and could see himself slot in the top-order of the CSK batting line-up. He will be looking to prove a point after having minimal chances in the tournament where he previously represented the Rajasthan Royals.

Rachin established himself as the next big star for New Zealand and international cricket after scoring 578 runs in his debut World Cup campaign. Since then he also returned to the Test squad where 240 to mark his maiden Test ton. He has played mostly in the top order, but with the absence of Devon Conway who misses out due to injury, this could be an opportunity for the youngster to take up the opening slot. The left-hander is also a useful spin bowler and could be an additional option that could be utilised in Chennai.
Led by the legendary MS Dhoni, CSK will look to begin their opening game against RCB with a win and start their title defence on a positive note.
