In South Africa for the second season of the SA20, Fabian Allen, who represents Paarl Royals, was robbed in front of his team hotel in Johannesburg last month.
Paarl Royals have confirmed the news of the Allen being mugged but termed it as an ‘isolated incident’ adding the allrounder has been provided with necessary support by both the team and the league.

“Following a media report surrounding an isolated incident with Fabian Allen in Johannesburg in the early hours of 25th January 2024, Paarl Royals would like to state that the West Indian all-rounder is safe, and enjoying his time at the SA20 as he, along with his teammates and support staff, prepares for the all-important Eliminator on Wednesday,” Paarl Royals said in a statement on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old Allen, who plays international cricket for the West Indies, was reportedly robbed of his phone and personal belongings on gunpoint.
“The franchise works closely with the league to ensure the safety and well-being of its players and staff, while also allowing them to have free personal time as well. Following the incident, the player was provided with the necessary support by the franchise and the league, and was keen to continue his participation at the SA20, and has since been available for selection (twice also featuring in the playing XI for the Royals),” read the statement.
“We would request the media to not speculate further on his and his teammates’ safety, and allow them to focus on the crucial match ahead of them,” it added.
Allen has played 20 ODIs and 34 T20Is for West Indies.
Allen has taken two wickets and scored 38 runs in the ongoing season of SA20 for Paarl Royals who will face Joburg Super Kings in the Eliminator on Wednesday.
The final of the league will be held on February 10.
