The streets of Mumbai were jam-packed even before Team India’s victory parade kicked off on Thursday evening. A sea of crazy fans had covered the roads to welcome the T20 World Champions who defeated South Africa and lifted the trophy in Barbados. After receiving a rousing reception at the airport, the members of the Indian team got onto the open bus and were mesmerized by what they witnessed.
The local boy – Rohit Sharma – was back home with the trophy in his hands. As the victory parade began, the crowd chanted his name in unison and left the Indian skipper speechless. Rohit was seen blushing as his name echoed on the streets of his hometown. Probably he was recalling all the hustle he went through while growing up in the city to be able to play for the country one day.

It has been a long day for the fans who waited for the team to return home after winning the T20 World Cup final against South Africa on Saturday. However, the scheduled departure got delayed after Hurricane Beryl hit Barbados, resulting in the closure of the airport in Bridgetown.
A couple of days later, a special Air India flight brought the winners back home as they landed in New Delhi on Thursday morning and met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi before leaving for Mumbai.
There, it was accorded a special ‘Water Salute’ after which the team alighted from the plane, they walked through the Indian Tricolour draped aerobridge, and all the team members were greeted with a floral cascade showered on them in the arrival corridor.
The airport rolled out the red carpet for the Men in Blue, followed by a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony at the terminal adorned with shades of the tricolour.
