Shreyas Iyer Spotted Training as India Batter Eyes Reunion With Gautam Gambhir Ahead of Sri Lanka Tour- WATCH
Shreyas Iyer is seen putting in the hard yards as he hopes to make a fresh start and a return to international cricket under Gautam Gambhir.

India batter, Shreyas Iyer seems to be putting in the work as a video surfaced of the Indian Premier League-winning captain training on a race track despite the inclement weather that was on display.

He was seen taking part in a training session which took place in Mumbai as he eyes a possible comeback in international colours. Iyer gained a lot of plaudits after he led the Kolkata Knight Riders to claim their third title in the IPL 2024.

His batting has also seen significant improvement where despite being shifted up and down the order, he was able to play according to the situation to put the team in a better position.

The 29-year-old who is hitting his athletic prime was denied a central contract which was released on February 2024 following a poor show in the home Test series against England which led to him being dropped.

Following his central-contract exclusion, he has not been part of the Indian set-up even in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 winning squad.

It was suggested that miscommunication is the reason why Iyer has been out of international action despite playing a big role in India’s ODI World Cup 2023 run through to the final.

He had undergone back surgery in 2023 and with the help of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, he was able to get back to his best which then led to him leading KKR to the coveted title.

Another interesting aspect is the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. The former India opener was a part of the very same KKR set-up as a mentor and it could be a possibility that he could make a case for Iyer receiving a call-up.

India’s upcoming assignment is the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka where the two sides will take on a 3-match T20I and ODI Series which will begin on July 26, 2024.

The BCCI is yet to announce the squad that will be part of this tour and with the openings in the T20I squad following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Iyer will be gunning for an international comeback.
