Virat Kohli will be in action for India in the second Test against Bangladesh, which is set to take place at Green Park in Kanpur from Friday (September 27) onwards. After getting out for 6 and 17 runs in the series opener played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last week, the right-handed batter would like to come up with a big show in the second and final match of the series. During the second Test, Kohli will have a chance to create history and become the fastest batter in the world to score 27,000 runs in international cricket.
The 35-year-old cricketer has 26,965 runs to his name in 534 matches played so far. He needs 35 more runs in the Kanpur Test to cross the 27,000-run mark and become the fastest batter in the world to achieve the feat. Only three batters—Sachin Tendulkar (34,357), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), and Ricky Ponting (27,483)—have crossed the 27,000-run mark in international cricket so far.

- Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 28,016
- Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 27,483
- Virat Kohli (India) – 26,965
- Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 25,957
Tendulkar achieved the feat in his 623rd inning, which is a world record. Kohli, on the other hand, has come out to bat 593 times so far.
During the second Test, the former Indian captain will also have a chance to become the fourth Indian batter after Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar to score 9000 runs in Test cricket. Kohli, who made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in Kingston on June 20, 2011, has 8871 runs to his name in 114 Tests played so far. He needs 129 runs more to join the elite list.
Tendulkar is the all-time leading run scorer for India in Tests. During his 24-year-long career, he played in 200 matches and scored 15,921 runs. Dravid finished his Test career with 13,265 runs in 163 matches for India, whereas Gavaskar amassed a total of 10,122 runs in 125 matches. The 1983 World Cup winner was the first batter in the world to score 10,000 runs in the red-ball format of the game.
