The various fans of the Indian cricket team certainly had their hearts in their mouths when South Africa’s David Miller struck that delivery off Hardik Pandya in the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados. The South African batter opens up about what happened during that intense moment on the field.
Speaking in an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Miller suggested that he did not expect Pandya to give away a full toss like that and it might have caught him off-guard during the moment.
“To be honest, I wasn’t actually expecting a full toss like that. I always do kind of have a full toss in mind, but I just, it just caught me a little bit off guard and I and I got it just slightly wrong,” the left-handed batter shared.
“There was a little breeze that was kind of coming across us, not necessarily into us, but it was more slightly in and across. So there’s there’s the margins are so small. So I was really frustrated,” he added.
Miller at the time believed that he had timed the ball enough to see it go past the boundary but it did not end up being the case for South Africa who continued their long-standing wait for that world title.
“I actually thought I had enough on it. I knew it was going to be tight. You know, you kind of get that feeling as soon as you hit it,” Miller commented.
“But yeah, I just kind of held up. And you know, the rest is history,” he concluded.

It took, India’s Suryakumar Yadav created one of the moments that would be etched in Indian cricket history by taking the catch of the tournament to help India get rid of Miller, South Africa’s last recognised batter to help deliver India’s second T20 World Cup title.
One thing is for certain, South Africa who might not have history by their side, put India on the brink of defeat and the stellar efforts on the field proved to be the difference between the two sides.
