As per the NIRF 2024 Ranking, IIT Kharagpur maintains its position as the best engineering college in West Bengal, followed by IIEST Shibpur and NIT Durgapur.

West Bengal has approximately 116 engineering colleges that offer full-time Bachelor of Technology (BTech) courses. Of these, 86 are owned by the private sector, 28 by the public sector, and two by the public-private sector.

Some of the popular engineering colleges in West Bengal include IIT Kharagpur, NIT Durgapur, Amity University Kolkata, Heritage Institute of Technology, NIT- Narula Institute of Technology, Jadavpur University, IIEST Shibpur- Indian Institute of Engineering Science Technology, and many others.

IIT Kharagpur: As per the NIRF 2024 ranking, IIT Kharagpur holds the third position in the country. It is the best engineering college in the state.

IIEST Shibpur: Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur ranks 20th in India, according to NIRF’s 2024 ranking. Shibpur is commonly referred to as BE College.

NIT Durgapur: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur is one of India’s oldest engineering colleges. The campus sits on 187 acres of land. This institute is ranked 30th in the NIRF 2024 rankings.

IEM Kolkata: If you were to make a list of West Bengal’s oldest private engineering colleges, the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) Kolkata would come first. This university was founded in 1989 and is affiliated with the University of Engineering & Management, Kolkata. As per reports, the NIRF 2024 ranks IEM Kolkata 79th.

Bengal Institute of Technology: The Bengal Institute of Technology is one of West Bengal’s top five engineering colleges. The institute is ranked 91st in the country by the NIRF for 2024.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF is a government method used by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to rank the top institutions in India.
