The Ministry of Education (MoE) released the NIRF 2024 rankings today, August 12. The NIRF India Ranking 2024 list has been uploaded on the official website– nirfindia.org.
In this year’s NIRF rankings, the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru achieved the top position in the law category, reaffirming its status as the leading institution in the field. Following closely behind, National Law University (NLU) in New Delhi secured the second spot, while NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad earned the third position. Remarkably, the institutions occupying the top four spots this year are the same as those in the 2023 rankings, underscoring their consistent excellence and dominance in legal education.

While the National Law Universities are the most popular for Law in India, other institutes such as Symbiosis Law College, Jamia Millia Islamia, and IIT Kharagpur are also becoming popular for their law degrees and have featured in NIRF list of Top 10 Law Institutes in India over the past few years.

Rank 1: National Law School of India University, Bengaluru
Rank 2: National Law University, New Delhi
Rank 3: Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad
Rank 4: The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata
Rank 5: Symbiosis Law School, Pune
Rank 6: Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
Rank 7: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur
Rank 8: Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar
Rank 9: Siksha `O` Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar
Rank 10: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow
The 2024 rankings evaluated Higher Education institutions under 16 categories such as overall, medical, universities, engineering, architecture, colleges, management, law, state universities, skill universities and open universities among others. The ranking categories have been increased this year taking the number from 13 to 16. The NIRF Ranking evaluates institutions based on several factors including teaching-learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcome, outreach, inclusivity, and overall perception.
