Till August 2025, a deadline of 17 months has been set for the completion of the construction of a contemporary Nursing College and Hostel in Karma town.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, virtually laid the foundation stone for the construction of B.Sc Nursing College and Hostel in Karma, situated in the Koderma district of Jharkhand. The digital laying of the foundation marks a significant step towards enhancing healthcare infrastructure and services for the local population. With a completion deadline set for August 2025, the ambitious project, estimated at Rs 19 crore 79 lakh, aims to address the pressing need for skilled nursing professionals in the region.

Amit Kumar, the Executive Engineer of the Jharkhand Building Construction Department, provided insights into the features and facilities of the upcoming Nursing College. Spanning an extensive area of 23,720 square feet, the college will boast modern amenities including lecture halls, multipurpose halls, common rooms, principal and staff quarters and a spacious library covering 2400 square feet. Additionally, specialised laboratories such as the AV Aid Room, Nursing Foundation Lab, Pre-Clinical Science Lab, Computer Lab and Pediatrics Lab will be incorporated to ensure comprehensive training and education for nursing students. Simultaneously, a hostel spread across 30,750 square feet will be constructed to accommodate students, equipped with single and double rooms, visitor lounges, reading areas, recreational spaces, dining facilities and kitchens.

Dr Anil Kumar, the civil surgeon at Sadar Hospital, Koderma, said the significance of the initiative in addressing the shortage of nursing professionals in the state. The college is projected to offer 60 B.Sc. nursing seats annually, thereby contributing to bridging the gap in healthcare staffing. Plans for the construction of a critical care unit (CCU) adjacent to the college were also disclosed, signalling a comprehensive approach towards bolstering healthcare infrastructure in the region.

The selection of a Ranchi-based company through a rigorous tender process to oversee the construction underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring quality and timely completion of the project. The Jharkhand Building Construction Corporation Limited will oversee the entire project, ensuring adherence to standards and timelines.

Furthermore, the development of a 300-bed Karma Medical College on a sprawling 30-acre plot across the National Highway in Karma signifies a broader vision to transform Koderma into a prominent medical and educational hub within the state. These initiatives hold the promise of not only improving healthcare accessibility but also creating avenues for quality education and employment opportunities in the region.
