Darshana Rajendran Reacts To Karan Johar Remaking Hridayam In Hindi, Tamil, Telugu: ‘I Hope We Get…’ | Exclusive
Darshana Rajendran reveals not receiving 'exciting' scripts in Hindi after Unpaused (2022). She also talks about how Hridayam gave her a pan-Indian attention.

Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan and Darshana Rajendran starrer coming-of-age film Hridayam became a surprise winner at the box office opening to rave reviews. The music added to the euphoria surrounding it and with a strong word-of-mouth, it went on to attain a cult classic status. The fact that its famous secret alley scene found a spoof version in another Malayalam film Premalu that released this year also bears a testament to Hridayam’s legacy.

And in 2022, Karan Johar announced that Dharma Productions along with Fox Star Studios have officially acquired the rights of Hridayam, which will be remade in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Last year, reports started doing the rounds that Sidharth Malhotra may headline the Hindi remake. A few months later, speculations were rife that Karan had signed Ibrahim Ali Khan to star in it. However, there’s no confirmation on either.

Now in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Darshana reacts to the news of its remake and says, “There are multiple conversations happening in various languages but I’m not very glued into that. I was just a part of the filming but I haven’t heard anything beyond what’s there in the news. I do feel like there’s some universality to the film, which is why people from everywhere are connecting to it.”

Admitting to how Hridayam gave her a commercial push, she adds, “The college life that’s shown in the film is very different from the one I had. But human emotions are universal and that’s why I found some kind of a connection to the story. That’s perhaps why it’s being made in multiple languages and I hope we get to watch them soon. When I was doing my upcoming Tamil and Telugu (Paradha) films, I knew that Hridayam has a massive audience in both of those states. It also has an audience base in the north of India.”

And what about her Bollywood plans? “There are some scripts that have come to me. I’m in talks for a few. Readings and narrations are going on too. I’ll definitely do them if they stay as exciting through the process. In Hindi, getting down to actually doing a film takes more time because there’s a journey involved even before the shoot begins. I’m in that journey and there are a few exciting things that look promising. So, let’s see which one works out!” remarks the Koode and Irul actor.

It was in 2022 that she marked her Bollywood debut with the web series, Unpaused: Naya Safar. Quiz her about what took her so long before returning to Hindi cinema and she candidly shares, “I haven’t consciously put myself out there in the Hindi industry. I don’t know if it’s the best way to go about it but it feels authentic to me. The ones that came to me from Hindi cinema weren’t as exciting for me as the ones from Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industries. I hope I can get to work more in Hindi since it’s a language I understand and can converse in.”
