A while back, the Russo Brothers referred to Citadel as their answer to James Bond. While James Bond has a man headlining the franchise, Citadel has its women doing as much heavy-lifting as their male counterparts. In the American chapter of Citadel, Priyanka Chopra Jonas made heads turn with her high-octane and power-packed action sequences. In Citadel: Diana, Matilda De Angelis was seen single-handedly carrying the story forward.
And in Citadel: Honey Bunny, Samantha Ruth Prabhu is sure to take the baton ahead and make a statement. Last month, at the press screening of the series in London, the women from the Citadel universe – Samantha, Priyanka and Matilda – came together for a picture that went viral in no time. Reacting to it, Samantha, in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, says that she agrees with all the fans of Citadel, who felt that the picture had girl power written all over it.
Talking about it, the Kushi and Yashoda actor says, “She’s Priyanka Chopra. All of us look up to her. She’s extremely sweet, warm and supportive. Matilda, the lead actress of Citadel: Diana, was also there. She’s lovely. I’ve been speaking to her on Instagram as well. It was a wonderful, nice evening. It felt like the female powers came together.” On Tuesday (August 15), Priyanka took to social media to share the trailer of Citadel: Honey Bunny, heaping praises on it and dubbing Varun Dhawan and Samantha ‘incredible’ and Raj-DK ‘exceptional’.
Speaking to us exclusively, Varun also lauds Priyanka for setting a precedent. So, what was her reaction to Citadel: Honey Bunny? “She loved it. She has seen the show. She had some lovely things to say about our show,” he says. In a similar vein, director Raj Nidimoru went on to reveal to us that before kick-starting the shoot of Citadel, Priyanka attended a bunch of meetings with them virtually so as to understand the nuances of her character, Nadia Sinh, better.
“She has been great and really supportive. She has been a part of this trail since the beginning. Along with the Russo Brothers, Priyanka was one of the first few people to start this project off. She’s involved in the Citadel universe. She even got on a Zoom call during Covid to understand Honey’s character, Nadia’s character and their dynamic to get some traits into her character,” he says.
For the unversed, Citadel: Honey Bunny is set in the 90s and sees Samantha and Varun play Nadia’s parents. The show also features a young Nadia and provides a glimpse of her relationship with her mother. The series is all set for its premiere on November 7 on Prime Video.
