3 Healthy Oats-Based Sargi Recipes To Try Out This Karwa Chauth
Not only are these recipes incredibly healthy and nutritious but they are also very easy to make

Karwa Chauth is an auspicious and beautiful festival celebrated by many married women across the country. It is observed by fasting for the long and healthy lives of their husbands. The ritual traditionally starts with the consumption of ‘Sargi’ – a meal consisting of delightful sweets and snacks consumed before sunrise on the morning of Karwa Chauth. This helps them to prepare for the day-long fast.

To help those fasting with sustained energy, here are three special Sargi recipes to fuel their day with love, nutrition, and wholesome goodness. Check them out-

Oats Kheer

Ingredients:-

  • Roasted Oats
  • Skimmed Milk
  • Honey (optional)
  • Green Cardamom
  • Dry Fruits (optional)

Method:-

  1. Boil milk, and simmer for 10 mins.
  2. Add Quaker Oats and cook on a slow fire stirring continuously.
  3. When kheer thickens to an even consistency, add sugar (optional) and green cardamom powder.
  4. Cook for a few more minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove from fire, add dry fruits (optional) and serve hot.

Oats Orange-Carrot Kheer

Ingredients:-

  • Roasted Quaker Oats
  • Skimmed milk
  • Grated carrots
  • Honey (optional)
  • Green cardamom
  • Orange zest
  • Chopped Almonds

Method:-

  1. Roast 150g oats.
  2. Boil 300ml skimmed milk.
  3. Add grated carrots & simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add roasted oats & stir.
  5. When the Kheer thickens, you can add honey if you want.
  6. Then, sprinkle some cardamom powder and orange zest to enhance the flavour.
  7. Cook for a few minutes, stirring constantly.
  8. Add chopped almonds and serve hot.

Oats Chilla

Ingredients:-

  • Oats – grind to a powder in a mixer
  • Gram flour (besan)
  • Water, approx.
  • Dry fenugreek leaves (kasoori methi)
  • Onion – very finely chopped
  • Tomato – very finely chopped
  • Green chillies – deseeded and very finely chopped
  • Chopped fresh coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Garam masala
  • Turmeric (haldi)

Method:-

  1. Mix all ingredients of the batter together in a bowl. Beat well, adding enough water to make a batter of pouring consistency.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan, grease lightly and pour 1 small ladle of batter.
  3. Spread lightly. Turn after 2 mins, when the edges get slightly brown. Cook the other side.
  4. Serve hot with mint chutney.
