New Delhi: Sevilla President, Jose Maria Del Nido, said on Thursday that Barcelona are a step above the rest in La Liga, and that against Osasuna this weekend, the talking will be done on the pitch.
Sevilla might be second in La Liga at the Christmas break, but it still looks as though the Andalucian side will struggle to overthrow current leaders Barcelona.
The Catalans are 10 points clear as they prepare to meet Real Mallorca this weekend, and Del Nido admitted they are in a different class.
"Barcelona are one or two steps above everyone else and they have a sizeable enough gap to be relaxed, although I do not think they will be," he told Sport.
"For a second level team like ourselves to win the league it has to be done with 80 points, when it goes to 90, as it seems it will, it is impossible."
Indeed, for Sevilla to overtake Barcelona they will need to do remarkably well for the rest of the season, and will need to hope the Catalan side slip up.
Next up for the Andalucian outfit is a meeting with Osasuna, and former coach José Antonio Camacho, who took the side down when he was in charge back in 1997; but Del Nido believes the talking will be done on the pitch this weekend, rather than off it.
"I expect that the argument will be done on the pitch, with the players as the main protagonists. I do not think that, after so many years, the Sevilla fans remember a lot of Camacho," he mused.
The president was also questioned about the surprise exit from the UEFA Cup, and revealed that he is still angry about the incident, saying that it does not do anyone good to continue speaking about it.
