Chennai: There's hardly any escape in sight when you are in the line of fire facing the bullet man - Brazilian legend and Delhi Dynamos marquee player-cum-manager Roberto Carlos.
The Real Madrid legend might have lost his speed, but he is still good enough to send shivers down the spine of any defender. That's what has made Chennaiyin FC's Kashmir-based player Mehrajuddin Wadoo a worried man.
Wadoo, an experienced defender himself, having earned 32 caps for India, said he doesn't want to be at the receiving end of Carlos when Chennayin FC face Carlos' Delhi Dynamos FC in the second season of the Indian Super League (ISL).
"I don't want to face Carlos. He is a legend. He is a star player and has been my favourite. I am playing from right and he plays in left but will be very difficult. I will love to play in the same team [as Carlos] but not in the opposite one," Wadoo said.
The second season of ISL gets underway on Saturday with Chennaiyin FC playing host to the defending champions Atletico de Kolkata. When asked about his views of the match, Wadoo said: "ATK are a nice team but Chennai did well and were looking very good in the league stages. Somehow we did not manage to win. [But] The boys are in good shape, so we are confident. We conceded the goal in last minute against Kerala Blasters last time around, else the story would have been different. Target is to be the champions this time around," he told one day ahead of the ISL-2 opener.
Mehrajuddin, who played for Pune City FC last season, was delighted that he will be piling his trade with Chennaiyin. It's a good feeeling playing for them [Chenniyin FC]. Normally it takes time to settle in with new players but it is a different story with me. I have known lots of Indian players from years, so it was easy to settle in. I also know quite a few foreigners as well. It is nice to be part of this team," he added.
