New Delhi: According to reports in Germany, Michael Ballack is set to quit his post as national team captain and be replaced by Bayern Munich's Phillip Lahm.
Munich based newspaper Abendzeitung claimed on Thursday that Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack is ready to step down as captain of the German national team.
The paper states that the 32 year-old will do so in order to preserve his place in the team as a compromise with head coach Joachim Loew.
The duo are believed to be ready for a face to face meeting, however Ballack's foot injuries have so far prevented that from occurring.
Ballack has already issued a public apology over his comments about Loew in regard to the treatment of both Torsten Frings and Kevin Kuranyi.
However, even though Ballack has paid his dues in public, Phillip Lahm is set to be unveiled as new Mannschaft skipper, according to Abendzeitung.
Crucially the paper cites no sources.
