I-League: Odafa elated after double hat-trick
The Churchill skipper scored six in his team's 9-1 thrashing of Vasco SC.

New Delhi: Odafa Okolie was a proud man after his blistering display which left Vasco SC wounded and thus guided his side to a resounding victory.

The Churchill skipper scored six in his team’s 9-1 thrashing of Vasco SC which made East Bengal’s 4-1 victory last week look tame.

Speaking to Goal.com, the Nigerian superstar said, "I only have to thank God, my wife, my son and the unborn kid who is on his way. It’s only due to them that I am in this position."

The 23-year-old stated that Churchill Brothers are not only about him but there are other 10 players as well.

"Right from Arindam to Gouramangi to Kalu, everyone has played their part. You just cannot discredit their contribution. We are a team and like to work as such."

This is also the first time that anyone has scored a double hat-trick in the I-League and the man stayed humble and once mentioned his desire to win the title.

"In so many years at Churchill, I haven’t won the I-League. I am more than determined to make-up. I also want to win it for Mr.Churchill who has helped us a lot. It’s our time to deliver the goods."

Having scored 19 goals so far in the league, Odafa shall surely surpass his personal best of 22 which he achieved last season.

"I don’t set any records for myself. As long as our side continues to win whether I score or not doesn’t matter," points Odafa.

The Churchill No. 10 spoke on the title race and believed that this win would boost the morale of the squad and has put their title credentials back on track after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Sporting Clube De Goa last week.

"Now, we are confident of our chances. Mohun Bagan have tough games and so do Sporting. This victory shall send the message that we are still very much in it."

Odafa broke Bhaichung Bhutia's record of maximum goals in a match with his sixer. Bhaichung had netted five goals against Mahindra United while at JCT in the 1996-97 season.
