New Delhi: Coach Bob Houghton has announced the 20 man squad which is to leave for Hong Kong to play a friendly against the same nation on January 14, 2009.
This was after 29 men attended the national camp from the second of this month.
Amongst the notable absentees are East Bengal duo Syed Rahim Nabi and Surkumar Singh, who is injured and Churchill’s Govin Singh. In come Mohun Bagan’s Rakesh Masih and Dempo’s Anthony Pereira.
Speaking to Goal.com, Coach Bob Houghton said, "The preparations for the Hong Kong game have been good. We are leaving tomorrow."
The Englishman had summoned a number of youngsters to the camp this time and was seemingly impressed with their showing.
"The youngsters have been impressive. Rakesh has had a good season. Then there is Baldeep Junior who of course has been part of the team earlier and has done very well. Baljit Saini and Jagpreet were also good.
"Anthony Pereira has been unlucky as mostly in my tenure, he has been injured. He is fit and in the final squad. This is one of the best squads. We have the Olympic qualifiers and the 2011 Asian Cup. The young players do promise a lot and are getting better. By next year, we will have a great squad."
The Squad: Bhaichung Bhutia (c), Abhishek Yadav, Sunil Chhetri, Sushil Kumar, Subrata Paul, Subashish Chowdhury, Mahesh Gawli, Deepak Mandal, Gouramangi Singh, Anwar, Rakesh Masih, Samir Naik, Anthony Pereira, Steven Dias, N.P.Pradeep, Renedy Singh, Climax Lawrence, Clifford Miranda and Mehrajuddin Wadoo.
