Chennai: The new marquee player of Atletico de Kolkata (ATK), Helder Postiga, was all praise for the Indian Super League (ISL) and said he is excited about new challenge he has accepted in the form of ISL.

Defending champions Kolkata will face Chennaiyin FC in the inaugural match of second season of ISL on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here and the Portugal striker says he is in perfect shape to get going.

"ISL is a challenge for me and I like challenging stuff. Every footballer loves to take new challenges - not just me. I am hoping that I will succeed in this league. So yes, I am very excited about playing in this league," the former Tottenham Hotspur player told media in a pre-match conference.

When asked how difficult it is for him to take the baton from the former ATK marquee player Luis Garcia, Postiga said it would be a difficult job but he is looking forward to it.

“Luis Garcia did a good job last season and it will be difficult to emulate that, but I am confident we can be champions again," he added.

Talking about the quality of Indian footballers, the Portuguese had some very good words to share and expressed confidence that they can be successful in upcoming years.

"Indian players will improve in the future; there is no doubt about it. With consistently playing in the ISL and for the national team, we will see lot more quality in the next few years," Postiga added

"If they continue to work hard, then who knows some can even go to foreign or European league in the future. But I have seen the quality - they are all nice lads," the ex-Spurs man said.

Postiga has represented Portugal in two World Cup's and three Euro qualifiers; and when asked does he feel pressure getting selected for the national team, the Portuguese said: "Pressure is always there in football. It's pressure that keeps you to work hard. I want to enjoy my football for Portugal but at the moment it's about ISL. I want my team to be champions once again," he concluded.
