Dortmund: Midfielder Nuri Sahin is returning to Borussia Dortmund, the club he helped win the Bundesliga title before unsuccessful stints with Real Madrid and Liverpool. Dortmund presented Sahin at a news conference on Friday. Sahin led Dortmund to the first of their consecutive titles in 2011 and then left for Real Madrid, where his career was slowed by a knee injury. "I am more than happy to be back home," Sahin said.

Sahin spent the first half of the current season on loan in Liverpool. Dortmund said it had signed Sahin on loan until the end of the next season but did not say if it had an option to make the deal permanent beyond June 2014. His contract with Real Madrid is valid until 2017.

The Turkey midfielder, who was born in Germany, struggled to win selection in place of central midfielders Xabi Alonso and Sami Khedira at Real Madrid. The 24-year-old Sahin has played 31 internationals for Turkey and became their youngest ever scorer at 17 when he found the net on his debut against Germany in 2005.

At the same time, Dortmund said they had extended the contract of left back Marcel Schmelzer until 2017.
