Surprising Her with Goofy Activities
Challenge her to a dance-off or make up a goofy dance just for her. Music and dancing are always great opportunities to have a blast. If her favorite music has a danceable beat, put some on and challenge her to a dance duel. If that doesn’t feel right, you can always do a silly little jig for her every time you hear a specific song. If she loves a particular movie with a dance scene in it, try to recreate it with her.
Start a pillow fight when she least expects it. Wait until you’re watching a movie or just chilling on the couch, then lightly bonk her on the head or shoulder with a soft pillow and yell, “Pillow fight!” Hopefully, she’ll squeal with laughter, grab the nearest pillow, and join in. Be sure to do this when things are calm and normal. If you know she’s upset about something or you just had a serious conversation, it’s not a good idea. Don’t hit her too hard! A light bonk is all you need to start a pillow duel. If it’s summertime, consider a water balloon fight instead!
Build a blanket fort and hang out in it for the night. Without saying a word about what you’re doing, go to the linen closet and grab all the blankets and sheets you have. Then, just start building the fort. It won’t take her long to ask you what on earth you’re doing. Reply in a serious voice, “Building a blanket fort for movie night, of course. Wanna help?” When you’re done, snuggle up in your blanket fort and watch a movie or listen to music.
Take her to the park and play on the playground. The next time you’re driving by your local park or playground, pull over and tell her to come with you. You can seesaw together, whirl her around on the merry-go-round, or swing side by side on the swing set. Girls drop a lot of hints about what they want. If you want to impress her, listen to the things she's hinting about and do them for her. They love surprises. You can give her a surprise party, cook her favorite meal, or take her to her favorite place. You can give her a thoughtful gift that shows you know her well.
Making Her Laugh
Keep banter positive and lighthearted. There are different ways to be funny in conversation, but if your goal is to be silly and fun, avoid negative humor. Generally, teasing her and ridiculing her aren’t good strategies – even if it’s all in good fun, there can be a negative edge to it. Ridiculing and teasing other people to make her laugh also isn’t a great look. Sarcasm and self-deprecating humor can be hit or miss, too. If you’re certain your girlfriend enjoys sarcastic remarks, dark humor, or light teasing, go for it! It all depends on her humor style. If you aren't sure, don't go there.
Give her a cute nickname to make her giggle. The best nicknames are the ones that mean something to both of you. Ideally, go with a nickname that reinforces an inside joke. Stick with funny, lighthearted stuff and stay away from anything too serious or sappy. For example, if your girlfriend always steals the blanket when you snuggle up to watch movies, you could playfully call her “Blanket Monster.” Keep in mind that you don't have to stick with just 1 nickname! You can continually change it up to fit the situation.
Order dinner in a silly accent or do a funny impersonation. If you’re out having dinner at a restaurant, wait until the waiter comes by and order your food in a posh British accent. Pretend like this is totally normal, even if she cracks up right then. You could also just do an impression of something hilarious that you’ve both talked about, like her neighbor’s high-pitched laugh.
Try pulling a lighthearted prank on her. Pranks can be tricky, so be sure to go with something really lowkey. For example, change the language setting on her phone or leave her a ransom note for something ridiculous, like her running shoes or a sandwich. You might take her sandwich out of the fridge and leave a note that says, “I'm holding your precious sandwich hostage. Unless you meet my demand of 10 kisses, you won’t be having lunch today.”
Narrate the current situation in a silly voice or style. When you’re in the room together, narrate every little thing that’s happening: what you’re thinking, what she’s thinking, what you’re seeing, etc. You can even narrate in a particular genre or style, like a detective/thriller or nature documentary. Hopefully, she’ll join in and you can trade off! For example, for a nature documentary narration, you could say something like, “Watch the elusive Kristin as she devours a pizza slice in her natural habitat. She stalks her slice from the couch before she goes in for the kill...”
Call attention to an awkward situation in a funny way to defuse tension. No one enjoys awkward situations, so finding ways to put a positive spin on them is a great tactic! For example, if she accidentally trips on her shoelaces, you can make light of the situation by telling her about an embarrassing time you tripped in public. You could even reenact it for her. For example, you could say, “You think that was bad? I once tripped and fell flat on my face during a school play!”
