How to Clean a Light Bulb
How to Clean a Light Bulb
Dirty light bulbs make for dingy rooms and unclean lights and their fixtures can reduce light output by up to 50 percent. Clean them regularly and make the most of your light. The cleaning methods apply to all types of bulb––just make sure they're cool or cold before wiping.
Steps

Steps

Decide whether it's easiest to clean the bulb in position or removed from the socket. This will depend on the location of the bulb and how safely you can access the light to clean it.

Switch off all lights before removing or cleaning them. Lamps can be turned off at the power point to be absolutely sure. In each case, the bulb must be cool or cold to the touch.

Choose a method for cleaning the light bulb. There are various methods below that you can try.

Dusting

Dust with a feather duster. If it's really dirty, brush the dirt into a plastic bag rather than letting it fall to the floor.

Wipe the bulb with a dry lint-free cloth. Rub gently over the bulb and collect the dust. There is no need to apply pressure.

Water clean

Dampen a cloth. Wring out excess liquid.

Wipe over a cool bulb. If wiping a lamp, turn off at the power point first.

Let dry completely before using the bulb again. You may want to give it 10-15 minutes to dry. (The time may also depend on the size of the bulb or on the amount of water content used)

Essential oil clean

Dampen a cloth. Wring out excess liquid; it should be damp, not soaking.

Pour a few drops of your favorite essential oil onto the damp cloth.

Wipe over the bulb. Let it dry. When you reuse the bulb, a lovely odor will waft forth (provided the bulb is warm to hot).

What's your reaction?
