Inviting Guests
Prepare your guest list. Decide how many people you can invite. It can help to check with your parents if you're hosting the party at home, since they might want to set a limit for the maximum number of people that can fit in the house. Select who you want to come to your party and write their names down - all your friends are fair game! You can keep the party small with just your closest friends or, if you're allowed, invite a bigger group.
Create fashion-themed invitations. Invitations are a great chance to get everyone excited about your party and to inform them about its fashion theme! You can purchase invitations, or you can make your own invitations. Use stencils to cut invitations into the shape of a high-heeled shoes and dresses or glue Barbie clothes onto the invitation for a 3D look.
Include important information. Make sure you list the time, date, location, and information about how to RSVP on your invitations. Also provide instructions for your guests about bringing the fashionable and over-the-top items that they will use for the runway walk or any other activities you have planned.
Preparing Refreshments and Decorations
Make a fashion-themed cake. Bake a cute purse cake or a regular sheet cake and decorate it with fashion-related flourishes such as plastic doll shoes, bows, or plastic jewelry. If you prefer cupcakes, consider baking high-heel cupcakes.
Use cookie cutters to create fashion-shaped snacks. Cookie cutters can cut many foods into fun shapes. Find purse, bow, or high heel shaped cookie cutters to create fashion-shaped treats. Create an adorable fruit and cheese plate by using the cookie cutters on soft cheese, watermelon, and pineapple. You can also get creative by cutting pizza and sandwiches into fashion shapes.
Accessorize your table. Fashion is all about extremes, so go crazy with confetti. You can use store-bought confetti and mix it with cut out pictures of shoes, jewelry, sun glasses, and handbags from magazines. Add plastic jewelry and plastic decorative gems to the table for extra flare.
Planning Activities
Search for the hottest trends with a fashion hunt. Before your party, collect a bunch of fashion magazines and create a list of must-find items like a Gucci bag or yellow flips. At your party, divide guests into two teams, give each group a stack of magazines, and start a timer for 15 minutes. Each team will frantically flip through the magazines in the hope of becoming the first team to find all the must-find items. Locating enough fashion magazines can be tricky. Ask your parents to buy the magazines, borrow magazines from friends and family, or ask doctors offices and salons for old magazines. You will want to check to make sure anyone you loans you magazines is okay with your guests cutting out the must-find items. If not, you can use sticky notes to bookmark the pages.
Showcase creativity with a design competition. Make small teams of 3-4 guests each and give each team a bag of design materials. Set a timer for 30 minutes and shout, "designers go" to let everyone know when to start. You can have parents act as judges to decide which design wins. Your bag of design materials should include fabric such as old garments or bedsheets. Tissue paper can work well too. Streamers, lace, feathers, bows, ribbons, and glitter all make great decorative items for the design bags. Don't forget tools such as scissors, tape, or safety pins.
Experience life as a super model with a fashion runway. Create a runway by putting a narrow rug or taping colored paper down to the floor. Have a bag of fashionable or silly clothes and accessories ready for guests to put on. Play some runway music and enjoy walking the runway and posing for pictures with your friends! If you want, you can choose a judge to decide who has the best runway walk, or you can just have fun without competing! To prepare the runway outfits, you can raid your parent's closet (with permission), purchase items at a thrift store, or ask your guests to bring stylish or over-the-top items. If you decide to hold a design competition, you can also model these outfits on the runway.
Race against your friends with a fashion-inspired relay game. Create two teams and give each team a suitcase with clothes and accessories. To start, one person on each team races to put on all the items in the suitcase and then runs to the other side of the room and shouts, "happy birthday," before running back to their team. As the first team member removes the items, the next guest starts getting dressed and repeats the steps. The first team that finishes, wins!
Have guests create cute fashion pieces as party favors. Show guests how to make beaded necklaces or bracelets. Alternatively, purchase blank t-shirts and show guests how to puffy paint a shirt. They can wear these pieces home or add them to goodie bags as party favors!
