Smoothing and Sorting Tissue Paper

Gather all of the tissue paper in your home. You'll be able to best sort your tissue paper if you can see it all at once. Check all of the containers, closets, and drawers in your home to organize all of the tissue paper in one place. Try not to buy more tissue paper than you think you'll need on a regular basis to avoid clutter.

Smooth out used tissue paper with an iron. For wrinkled tissue paper, pre-heat your iron to the polyester setting and stack 3 tissue paper sheets on top of each other. Place a wash cloth or towel over the stack and iron one side, then flip the stack over. After placing the towel or wash cloth over the other side, iron it as well. Line up the 3 tissue paper corners as closely as you can to prevent wrinkles from misaligning the stacks.

Fold the tissue paper into quarters. Tissue paper stays in best condition if it's stored while folded. Fold the tissue paper in half lengthwise, then fold it half again, tightening the fold creases with your hands. For thicker quarters, you can also align multiple pieces of tissue paper and fold them in groups.

Stack your folded tissue paper. Organize your tissue paper in an order that makes sense to you, then stack each folded section on top of each other. You could, for example, sort the folded tissue paper by color, holiday pattern, or whether it's been used yet.

Get rid of any excess tissue paper. If you have more used tissue paper than you know what to do with, discard, donate, or recycle it. Because tissue paper is cheap, organizing and storing more tissue paper than you need can create more clutter than it's worth. Some secondary schools and community centers take craft supplies as donations. Call some in your area if you have more tissue paper than you need but don't want to throw it out.
Finding the Right Container

Place your tissue paper stack in a gift bag for simple organization. Transfer the stacks of tissue paper in sections into the gift bag. Arrange the tissue papers in rows going sideways so you can browse through your tissue paper collection without removing them from the bag. Try to find a gift bag that's the approximate size of your stack to prevent it from shifting out of order later.

Store tissue paper in a filing cabinet to see all of it at once. Drape each color or section of tissue paper over a filing folder to separate it from other colors or types. Place each of the filing folders in a filing cabinet or container. When you need tissue paper, you'll be able to see all of your options at once. You can buy filing cabinets and folders from most office supply stores.

Place your tissue paper and other gift wrapping supplies in a garment bag. If you have wrapping paper, ribbons, and other gift decorations along with the tissue paper, place all of it inside a garment bag. That way, you'll have it stored in the same place and can see all of it at once when you need it. Garment bags are also easiest to hang in storage closets. Secure the tissue paper stack with a ribbon to keep it together in the garment bag.

Use a shelf to hold your tissue paper somewhere visible. Shelves are a perfect place to stack tissue paper if you use it often and want to keep it in a visible place. Use an existing shelf or build a new one in your craft or storage room.
Storing Tissue Paper

Store your tissue paper in a closet to keep it out of the way. If you want to de-clutter, place your tissue paper container in a closet. Put your additional gift wrapping or crafting supplies near the tissue paper for easy access when you need it. If you don't have a closet with enough storage space, you can also use a cubby or cabinet.

Keep your tissue paper under your bed or furniture for easy access. Storing your tissue paper container underneath furniture can keep it out of sight but easy to reach if you need it. Choose a piece of furniture with plenty of space underneath without folding or damaging your tissue paper. Although storing crafting supplies in this way is convenient, storing too much can create more clutter underneath furniture. If you have a lot of crafting supplies and want to keep it together, try a room or closet instead.

Place your tissue paper in a cart for portable craft storage. Storing craft materials on a cart can help you take your materials with you wherever you need it. Place your tissue paper, gift wrap, and other decorations on the cart so you have everything you need to decorate in the same convenient, movable spot. You can buy a cart from most home improvement or craft stores.

Make a craft room if you have lots of wrapping supplies. If you have plenty of crafting supplies, clean out a spare or guest room and turn it into a personal craft room. You can store your tissue paper, craft materials, and other decorations in this room.
