- You must transfer your money out of your Venmo account before closing it, or you'll have to contact Venmo to get the money back.
- Your account can be closed via the Venmo website or app by going to your account settings and selecting Profile or Account and then Close Venmo Account.
- If you want to close a business account, you must contact Venmo for assistance.
Before You Close Your Account
Transfer all your funds back to your bank. You can check your Venmo balance by clicking on the Me tab. After you close your Venmo account, your funds will not be automatically transferred to you. Make sure any money in your Venmo account has been sent back to your bank. If there is a remaining balance when you close your Venmo account, you'll have to contact Venmo to get it back.
Ensure all transactions have been processed. If you have any transactions that are processing, you won't be able to close your Venmo account. Wait until all transactions (including the transfer of your funds back to your bank) have cleared and are listed as complete.
Inform others your Venmo account is closing. If you often get sent money via Venmo by family or friends, inform them you're closing your Venmo account so they don't attempt to send you money after your account has been closed.
On Mobile
Open the Venmo app. You can close your account via the Venmo app if you prefer.
Tap the Me button in the bottom-right corner. This will bring you to your personal page on Venmo.
Select the cog wheel in the upper-right corner. This will expand the settings menu.
Under "Preferences," select Account. This will bring you to a settings menu where you can change various things about your account.
Tap Close Venmo Account. Then select Continue and follow the on-screen prompts to close your account.
On Desktop
Go to Venmo's website. You can close your Venmo account by going to Venmo.com. Log in if you aren't already.
Click the three-line menu button in the upper-left corner. This will expand your account menu.
Select Settings. More options will be present in the drop-down.
Click Profile. This will bring you to a screen where you can edit your profile.
Scroll down and click Close Venmo account. Then select Begin closing my account and follow the on-screen prompts to finish closing your account.
Closing a Business Account
If you have a business account, you must contact Venmo to close it. If you opt to close your business account, your personal account will not be closed. However, you must contact Venmo via their ticket form to close your business account. There are a few things to consider as well: You cannot reactivate a deleted business account You cannot tie another business account to your personal account You cannot create a new business profile representing the same business that was represented by the closed account If you close your personal account, your business account will also be closed.
