10-yr-old boy swept away in canal

CHENNAI: A 10-year-old boy was swept away while playing with friends at the Buckingham Canal in Kodungaiyur on Saturday. The victim, M Sridhar, stayed in a TNSCB flat in R R Nagar, sources said. A Class VI student, his father Manivannan worked in a flour mill. On Saturday, Sridhar and his friends gathered at the Buckingham Canal close to his locality. Sridhar got into the water along with others when he  was swept away by the water. The police and fire and rescue services personnel arrived at the spot and launched a search for the boy, which proved futile.
