Lucknow: At least 12 students were injured when their school bus overturned in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district on Saturday, police said.
So far as the reports have come the condition of three of the students is said to be critical.
The speeding bus, carrying 30-35 students of the DPM College, overturned after the driver reportedly applied the brakes suddenly to avoid collision with another vehicle in Pehsuma area, about 400 km from here, reports said. The jerk at the sudden application of the brakes led to the overturning of the bus.
"Those injured are in the age group of 6-17 years. All of them are being treated at a hospital where the condition of three is stated to be critical," police Inspector P.R. Rewala said in Meerut.
After the incident the driver of the school bus is absconding. The police have launched an operation to nab the erring driver who managed to escape.
