16 officers booked for misuse of national emblem
The Calcutta HC issued notices to 16 IAS and IPS officers asking why action should not be taken against them.

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday ordered notices be issued to 16 Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service officers in West Bengal, asking why contempt proceedings should not be started against them for misuse or improper display of the national emblem. Acting on a petition by K. Dey, a division bench of Justice P.C. Ghosh and Justice Tarun Gupta directed the officers to reply to the notices by Dec 21.

The petition alleged that the officers, including the West Bengal chief secretary, home secretary and the director general of police, were violating the provisions of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act by making unauthorised use of the emblem.

Dey moved the petition on Wednesday after he was directed by the court on Sept 2 to bring to its notice if its order for proper display of the national emblem was violated.
