TIRUNELVELI: Superintendent of Police Vijayendra S Bidari on Thursday made it clear that cases had been booked against KKNPP protestors only for not obtaining the mandatory police permission for public meetings and protests in Idinthakarai and other areas.Police sources said that so far, 77 cases had been registered against the protestors and leaders who took part in the fast and demonstrations at Idinthakari, Koodankulam and nearby areas. Cases had been registered against People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy leaders S P Udayakumar, M Pushparayan, Idinthakarai parish priest Father Jayakumar and Thoothukudi RC Bishop Yvon Ambrose. Cases had also been registered against political leaders, including Vaiko, Thol Thirumavalavan, Seeman, G K Mani and others took part in the protest. However, Idinthakarai parish priest Father Jayakumar said that they had not received any notice regarding the cases. When Express asked whether any case had been booked for using places of worship for anti-KKNPP protests, on religious grounds, Bidarai replied in negative.
