MYSORE: Apoorva, who fell into a vessel filled with hot ‘sambar’ while standing in a queue for her midday meal at a government school in Katte Hunsur in HD Kote taluk, succumbed to burn injuries at KR Hospital in Mysore on Friday.Apoorva (7), a second standard student, sustained 80 per cent burns after she was allegedly pushed by her classmate into a vessel filled with hot ‘sambar’ on Wednesday.After giving her first aid, she was shifted to KR Hospital the same day. Sadly, she failed to respond to treatment and breathed her last on Friday. It is said that her condition had deteriorated on Thursday.Apoorva’s parents Mahadevi and Basavaraju, and their relatives refused to allow doctors to conduct the postmortem and demanded action against the erring authorities and a job for Mahadevi at a government hospital.Tension prevailed at the mortuary at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute premises on Friday.Utter negligenceMeanwhile, taking serious note of the incident, ZP CEO G Satyavathi suspended the head master of Katte Hunsur Government School H Srinivas and a show-cause notice has been issued to HD Kote BEO Manjunath.Receiving the report from the Fact Finding Committee led by Department of Public Instruction executive officer, Narasimhaiah, Satyavathi also dismissed three cooks-Shivamallamma, Sriprada and Kendagannamma.All of them are daily wage workers.Job and CompensationFollowing the demand by the Apporva’s family members and relatives, ZP CEO Sathyavathi has directed HD Kote taluk panchayat authorities to give a job to Apoorva’s mother Mahadevi at the school where her daughter studied.“We can give her a cook’s job at the school,” she said. This apart, a compensation of Rs 25,000 has been announced under the Student Welfare Fund and the zilla panchayat has asked the state government to announce compensation to the deceased family.“As this incident is the first of its kind, the compensation amount has not been decided as yet. I am however, asking the government to announce the compensation soon," Satyavathi said.
