A dharna in Kochi for ladies rest rooms!

KOCHI: The Janadhipathya Vanitha Sanghadana State Committee will orgainse a Dharna in front of the Kochi Corporation office on October 10, demanding the construction of  comfort stations for women in the city. “There are no proper toilet facilities for the women in the city. Our demands also include the construction of comfort stations at major work places and Government offices,” said T B Mini, secretary of the Association.She said that various organisations have been raising this demand  since a long time. “Though the Town Planning Committee of the Corporation has made plans, none of the projects have yet materialised,” added Mini.She said that the issue was not only a problem for the women in Kochi, but throughout the State. “Hence we have decided to carry out similar protest marches in other districts also,” Mini said.In a recent survey conducted by an agency, about 75 per cent of women who took part in the survey said they need to return home earlier due to lack of availability of public toilets. Some women said that the existing toilets are unclean, meanwhile others said in worst case they prefer to go to a hotel or a restaurant.
