KOCHI: Anoop Abdul Khader’s every previous attempt to land a job might have turned futile, but this visually- challenged 25-year-old remained unfazed, and was ready to give it another go! Anoop, who was seen searching for a suitable job at the Employment “Technodrive 2012”, organised by the District Employment Exchange at Kakkanad on Saturday, was a picture of courage and grit. “One cannot sit back and think that just because he is challenged, he is not fit for a job. It may require a struggle, but it will worth it,” said Anoop, the only physically challenged person at the drive, which saw more than 1,300 job-seekers from Ernakulam and other districts including Idukki, Alappuzha and Kottayam thronging the exchange’s office. Anoop, who came along with his mother to the event, said he has risen far above the days when everything had proven to be a challenge for him. The first hurdle came when he was 11 years old. “I was sitting at the examination hall when I suddenly felt exhausted.I was taken to a hospital where the doctors said that I was suffering from a potential weakness of the nerves. They said a surgery could be the only remedy,” he said. But, fate had something bitter in store, as following the surgery Anoop lost eye-sight. “Those were difficult days for us. But Anoop is a bright boy who always had the ability to take care of himself. He assisted our family by looking after his siblings,” said his mother, Pathumma.Anoop, an avid sports fan, completed his degree from Maharajas College, Ernakulam, where he had a lot of supportive friends.
